Granada High School Instrumental Music
Color Guard and Winter Guard

The Color Guard is a big part of the Band -- Band could not march without the Color Guard and the Color Guard could not exist without the Band. The Color Guard is largely the showmanship part of the Marching Band. Color Guard is a Performing Arts class at Granada and is graded as such. It is not an Extra-curricular Activity.

The Guard works very hard to put together a performance and march with the Band at all the band reviews. After the Band reviews are over the Guard starts work on their Winter Guard Show.

During Winter Guard the Granada Color Guard competes against other Northern California Color Guards at indoor shows. These are very entertaining programs that consist of flags, rifle, saber, and dance work choreographed to music, making a spectacular show. These can be very difficult and strenuous routines that take a lot of hard work to perfect.

Toward the end of the Winter season, we will be hosting our annual “Fiesta”. This is a great chance for you to see all the hard work that the Guard and Percussion Units have done. It is also a chance to see some of the impressive Units from other schools that come here to compete.

The Granada Color Guard has been very successful over the years bringing home many trophies, but the big payoff is the camaraderie that comes from being involved with the team.
