About our Music Program

 

The Granada High School Music Department offers a complete and comprehensive music program that includes Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, String and Full Orchestra, and Concert Choir. The Department also offers various enrichment opportunities including an award winning Color Guard, a Winter Percussion Ensemble and an Orchestra wind and percussion section. The Program complements a rigorous school-wide academic curriculum. 

The City of Livermore sits in the beautiful Livermore Valley about 45 miles southeast of San Francisco. The population is around 80,000. Granada High School is one of two comprehensive high schools in the Livermore Valley Unified School District (LVJUSD). It currently serves about 2100 students grades 9 through 12. 

Our program is rich in history and tradition. Since 1964 the first and foremost commitment of our performing ensembles is to our School and Community. The education of our students is focused on the development of musicianship, pride, and citizenship. We strive to produce a true appreciation and passion for the musical arts, something essential to our cultural development and the development of tomorrow’s audiences. Over the last 20 years the Granada Music Program has received many hundreds of awards and accolades for all of its Ensembles and Programs. The Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Choir have performed in contests, conferences, and festivals from British Columbia to the Mexican Border. 

Two members of the LVJUSD Music Staff currently staff the GHS Instrumental Music Program. In addition, two volunteer instructors assist with Color Guard and Drum Line. Dozens of Parent Volunteers assist with the logistics of the program, including transportation, fundraising, uniforms, equipment, and so on. These parents truly are the backbone of our Program. Without our Booster Organization we would not be able to function. Most of our financial support comes from our membership through various fundraisers, sponsorships, and donations from our Community.
