Orchestra

The Granada High School Orchestra has a rich tradition of musical excellence dating back to the 1960’s.  As a performance Ensemble representing Granada High School the group has participated in 3 CMEA State Conference sessions highlighted by concert performances. Over the years the ensemble has received countless “Unanimous Superior” ratings at CMEA Music Festivals within the Bay Section. With the change to trimesters at Granada High School, the Group has taken on a somewhat different roll, incorporating a wind section and performing often as a “full Orchestra” as well as a “string orchestra”.  Although string performance and pedagogy is the primary role of the group, the Orchestra has recently had the honor of presenting numerous compositions written by student composers, both within and outside the group, starting with the premier of “Never Only One” by James McQueen, (2011) who has since received degrees in violin performance and composition from the University of the Pacific, to last Springs premier of “The Rouge and the Defender” by Peter Chatterjee, currently a student composer attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Orchestra performs regularly at the Livermore 1st Presbyterian Church and/or the Robert Livermore Community Center, as well as Granada HS.  Smaller ensembles from within the Orchestra perform frequently at private and community events throughout the Tri Valley.
